Unashamed Encouragement

And now dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

Philippians 4:8 NLT

Fixing our thoughts! Much easier said than done. It’s crazy how we can go weeks and weeks, never taking pause on the thoughts that are racing through our minds.

We are called to take our thoughts captive.(2 Corinthians 10:5) To filter thoughts that come into our minds. It’s one thing for a thought to come into our mind, but it’s when we roomanatie on that negative thought that gets us in trouble.

For years I struggled with sexual immorality, lust, and porn. What was the root of acting out? It was my thought life. I would think about these sinful thoughts day after day after day, and then I would act out on those thoughts.

I was fixing my thoughts on evil, and the fruit it was producing was death and destruction.

This is why Paul’s writing in Philipians is so encouraging! He essentially calls us to take our thoughts captive, and fix them on what is true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, and admirable!

Excellent and praiseworthy!!!

How different would your life look if you heed this truth?!

We must learn to surrender our thought life to Jesus, to intentionally acknowledge when our thoughts are heading in the wrong direction. In that moment we must cry out to the Lord, and ask for His strength.

Lord, I am weak. My thoughts are drifting away from your truth. Instead of fixing my thoughts on what is right, I’m fixing my thoughts on things that displease you. Lord help my unbelief, change my thoughts to line up with Philippians 4:8. Lord I need you! I surrender my thoughts to you Lord, change them in Jesus name!

This is the heart posture we should be taking when it comes to our thought life? Moment by moment surrender as the thoughts come to mind.

Is this difficult? Yes. Does this take practice? Yes. However, this is what it looks like to grow into the fullness Christ has for you!

For when our thoughts change our actions change.

And when we are weak… He is strong!

How are you going to move forward on realigning your thought life?

I hope you were encouraged!
